St. Andrews golf course pictures form St.
Andrews, Scotland known as the "Home of Golf". St.
Andrews was founded in 1754 and then known as the
Society of St Andrews Golfers. In 1834 King William
IV became its patron and the club became known under
its present name. In 1897 the Society codified the
rules of golf, and gradually over the next 30 years
was invited to take control of running golf
tournaments at other golf courses. St. Andrews is
the most frequent venue for The Open Championship,
the oldest of golf's four major championships.
Visitors travel to St Andrews in great numbers for
several courses ranked amongst the finest in the
world, as well as for the sandy beaches.
